I’m a golfer and I love to take my kids golfing. My oldest Max, who is now 15, started out really loving the game but his current status as a Teenager who thrives on music and counter culture, means that it’s not cool to play golf. Let’s just say Max doesn’t run with the preppy crowd. I’m not worried about it though. I planted the seed of golf early in his life and I imagine he’ll return to it one day. Max has a natural swing and a lot more talent for the game then he gives himself credit for. Back when I lived in California I took Max to a summer golf camp. He loved it, and ended up winning one of the ending day competitions. Charles, 11 is an avid golfer, who is simply overjoyed when he connects with the ball. He never gets tired of it. John and Julia, 3 and 2 respectively, will be rounding out our regular foursome in no time at all and during the summers, holidays and school breaks we’ve got enough family for two threesomes. Oh joy!

But, I digress. I was reading Scott Walker’s “Notes From The Bunker” the other day over at DigitalGolf and it was hard to keep a dry eye as I read his story about Woodrow Wojdula, a boy recovering from a rare form of cancer who recently had a wish come true (one of these) by meeting Phil Mickelson. You’ll likely be surprised by the punchline and I’ll leave you to link over to Scott for the full story. Thanks for letting us know about this story Scott - it’s a wonderful reminder of the power of the human spirit.

Hi Joanne, Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. Stories like you and your sons ARE inspiring to parents like me who gain strength from them to try harder, through both the big and small battles that we fight in life. Our family will keep yours in our hearts and I wish you all the best.

Be warned: In case you couldn't tell from the url, this isn't a PG Site or a 'cute daddy blog' - you'll find lots of expletives and general silliness here, along with nicer, friendlier stuff. You could say this is an outlet for having to hold my tongue around the little ones all day. ;-)
