Bowling Virgins
Published by jinfinite8 March 4th, 2007 in John and Julia.Given that mum and dad, yours truly, first connected in a bowling alley in Phoenix Arizona it was no surprise that John and Julia’s first bowling outing was such fun for them. Last night, we ventured over to Verdes Tropicana Bowling Alley on Belvedere Rd for some family fun.
Verdes Tropicana set us up in two lanes, with team J&J taking the bumper lane and Shan and I sharing the usual. We tried to get the kids to roll the bowling ball down the lane from between their legs in true beginner style but John and especially Julia didn’t favor that method. They preferred to hold the ball in two hands and chuck it waist high down the lane. More often than not they would bung it directly into the wood lane, causing shivers to go through our spines as the crunch of bowling ball to wood hit us over and over again. Oh well. Their eyes lit up in delight as the pins went down. I was reminded, and amazed, that a little 6 lb. bowling ball, barely rolling, can knock down as many pins.
John bowled a strike towards the end of our adventure and knew that he had accomplished something. Lots of high-fives all around. Julia and John both made a few spares as well. Both nearly chucked their bowling ball down the walk way to the side of their lane (they were on the very end). And John, along with your first strike, came your first gutter ball, despite the fact that the bumpers were up. We’re still trying to work out how exactly you accomplished that. ![]()

And that was quite amusing. Can you remember all our bowling in NJ???
Hi Mum, I certainly remember our bowling in New Jersey and no doubt that is where I developed my early love of the game! I ALWAYS enjoy the lanes. I even remember the name: Thunderbird Lanes! Ring a bell?
